I just finished teaching my second grader her first Algebra lesson! When I looked at her lesson for today, I felt faint. How can it be possible that my baby is learning Algebra? Granted, it's very basic algebra (i.e. n+5= 9), but their were some new concepts there that took me back to my school days. She has just learned terms like equation and variable, and been introduced to the idea that whatever you do to one side of an equation, you must do to the other. She learned it all amazingly well (especiall since math isn't exactly Ali's forte). It just doesn't seem right to be learning this in second grade!

Algebra?
